Alfredo de Matteis-Colberg

Engineer | Producer | Composer

Alfredo de Matteis-Colberg is the chief engineer and director of Estudio Medea, a full-featured commercial facility located in San Juan, Puerto Rico.  The 3,000+ sq/ft recording facility houses two studios featured in Mix Magazine's "Class of 2024" (June, 2024 issue). The facility was built from the ground up to provide an experience harkening back to the classic era recording studios of the 70's, where the entire ensemble recorded together in one common space. This deceptively simple workflow has arguably led to endless hit records with a sound that many younger audiences yearn for today.  The space, with its highly curated equipment ranging from 1950-70's vintage, to cutting-edge Dolby Atmos, offers a unique sanctuary for projects pursuing a truly signature sound.

With the same handcrafted love Estudio Medea has been built on, de Matteis-Colberg has  been fine tuning his craft as a Producer since the early 90's.  Spanning a wide range of genres from free Jazz, experimental, and electronic to folkloric Caribbean music. Recent highlights include albums by "Bonga" Jean-Baptiste, a Haitian maestro who has recorded / performed with the Rolling Stones, Celia Cruz, Grace Jones, and Wyclef Jean. Also notable is a collaboration with Fully Fullwood, a legendary Jamaican bass player and band leader who has recorded / performed with Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, and all of the Reggae greats.
